Korea Match Cup, Day three

Day three of Korea Match Cup saw a long wait for the breeze to fill in. As the sailors waited in anticipation for the mega wind turbines on the race course horizon to start up they finally jumped into action by 4pm. With wind building to a steady 9 knots, Francesco Bruni and his team Azzurra were able to complete only one race, defeating Johnie Berntsson from Sweden. Bruni, who is new to the Tour this year, is now ranked 8th after one win today and could still be in play for a slot in the quarters as this skipper is termed a ‘light wind specialist’.

At the end of day three, Bruni commented: “Today we sailed only one race and it was certainly a morale booster after yesterday’s disappointment. We won our match with great confidence, inflicting a penalty on our rival at the start and leading all the way through from the first mark rounding. Yesterday was a tough day but we learnt from our mistakes and today we certainly were more focused. Tomorrow will be a critical day for us, since we still have a chance of advancing to the quarter finals but we need to sail well and stay focused as a group.”
